The thesis defense will begin with an oral presentation of the research project by the graduate student. This format check must be done in person at University Hall and cannot be accomplished electronically.

Thesis Options

You must arrive at least 30 minutes before the office closes: An original thesis based on the research project must be written and successfully defended. Students must submit the Thesis Approval form to the Graduate School and submit the approved thesis to OhioLink by the published deadline for the semester of graduation.

The date, time and location of each thesis defense should be transmitted to all faculty and students no later than one week prior to the defense. During a high-volume semester, this process can take a few months.

A format check is required and must be completed at least two weeks before the defense. Students are required to prepare at least one publication-ready manuscript based on their research findings.

Non-Thesis Option Plan B Students in this option are expected to complete an original research project of scope and standard identical to those carried out under Plan A, but are not required to present their findings in a thesis format. The closed portion of the exam typically extends for one to two hours.

A reason for the delay must be given, and the form must be electronically approved by the advisor. Document Conversion After making the required corrections, the student must convert their document into an embedded-font PDF.

The final document must be approved by the Graduate School by 5 p.
